Phoebe Bridgers Strips Down ‘Lost Boys’

Phoebe Bridgers has given fans another look at her long-awaited return. Following the June 25 unveiling of “Lost Boys” — her first original solo music since 2022 — the singer/songwriter has released a stripped-back acoustic version of the single, following a pair of surprise performances on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

As previously reported, “Lost Boys” introduced Bridgers’ forthcoming third album, Lost Weekend, due Aug. 14 via Dead Oceans. The announcement sparked an immediate frenzy, with her North American and U.K. arena tour selling out within hours.

Bridgers brought two dramatically different interpretations of the song to Fallon on consecutive nights. For the television debut of the original version on Tuesday (July 14), she was backed by a band made up entirely of young musicians between the ages of 8 and 14, including 11-year-old 12-string guitarist Bay Melnick Virgolino, bassist EllenPlaysBass, 14-year-old Saxon Weiss and 10-year-old drummer Ryder B.

Last night, she returned to perform “Lost Boys” acoustically alongside a seasoned group of players that included songwriter Dan Reeder and acclaimed acoustic guitarist David Grier. The newly released studio version is now available across streaming platforms; its predecessor boasts contributions from longtime collaborators Tony Berg and Ethan Gruska, as well as Jack Antonoff, Bridgers’ boygenius bandmates Lucy Dacus and Julien Baker and musicians such as Chris Thile and Sebastian Steinberg.

The performances continue Bridgers’ unconventional rollout for Lost Weekend. Earlier this year, she surprised fans with a series of intimate pop-up shows across the U.S. before capping the run with a sold-out performance at New York’s Madison Square Garden announced just days beforehand.
