Bad Bunny Shines Bright In ‘Toy Story 5’

Bad Bunny’s Hollywood takeover is heading to infinity and beyond. Pixar announced today (May 26) that the Puerto Rican superstar has joined the voice cast of Toy Story 5, where he’ll play a new character called “Pizza with Sunglasses.” The reveal arrived via the studio’s Instagram account alongside a short animated teaser.

It’s the latest left turn in the ever-expanding screen career of Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, who in recent years has appeared in Adam Sandler’s Happy Gilmore 2 and Darren Aronofsky’s crime drama Caught Stealing opposite Austin Butler. He’s also slated to star in Porto Rico, the forthcoming feature from fellow musician Residente.

The Toy Story universe has actually been part of Bad Bunny lore for years. During the early months of the COVID lockdown in 2020, the artist began posting homemade Toy Story-inspired videos across social media using his personal collection of Woody, Buzz Lightyear, Rex and Forky figures. The DIY mini-episodes — dubbed Toy Story in the Times of Coronavirus — featured Bunny hilariously voicing every character himself.

Toy Story 5 reunites franchise mainstays Tom Hanks, Tim Allen and Joan Cusack as Woody, Buzz and Jessie, respectively. According to Pixar, the new installment centers on the toys struggling to compete for main character Bonnie’s attention in a world increasingly dominated by modern technology, including a new device called Lilypad.

The film opens June 19 in U.S. theaters.
