U.K. trip-hop pioneer Tricky has announced his first North American tour dates since 2018, which will come in support of his upcoming album, Different When It’s Silent. The run marks a rare live return to the region for the influential producer and artist, who has spent recent years releasing music through a series of collaborative and experimental projects via his False Idols imprint.

The trek begins Sept. 16 in Detroit and runs through Oct. 15 in Atlanta. Click here for tickets, which go on sale this week. Tricky has only performed live about 30 times since 2019.

More from Spin:

Different When It’s Silent, Tricky’s 15th studio album and his first full-length release under his own name in six years, is out July 17 via False Idols. Lead single “Out of Place,” featuring longtime collaborator Marta Zlakowska, previews the album’s stripped-back approach, pairing restrained vocals with Tricky’s urgent delivery across a tense, minimal arrangement.

While Different When It’s Silent carries his name, Tricky has remained active in multiple forms since 2020’s Fall to Pieces, including the Lonely Guest project, the Fifteen Days collaboration with producer Mike Theis (under Theis Thaws) and 2025’s joint release with Marta, Out the Way. According to Tricky, the new album initially began as another side project. Recorded between his home in France and sessions in Bristol, England, it heavily on collaborators from his early musical orbit, including Bristol singer Mitch Sanders, whose falsetto is featured prominently.

“I just love making music,” Tricky says. “I’m grateful I’ve had the chance to live this life and keep creating.” As a member of Massive Attack, Tricky emerged in the early 1990s as a central figure in Bristol’s trip-hop scene, later cementing his solo reputation as one of the genre’s most unconventional and boundary-pushing architects.
