John Mayer Honors Dolly Parton At SiriusXM Show

John Mayer turned Amagansett’s Stephen Talkhouse into the hottest room in the Hamptons yesterday (Aug. 26), delivering a private set for SiriusXM subscribers that Bravo’s Andy Cohen said was “the hardest ticket in the Hamptons for many years” during his pre-show introduction.

With a full band behind him, Mayer worked through Continuum favorites including “Belief,” “I Don’t Trust Myself (With Loving You)” and “Slow Dancing in a Burning Room,” alongside Sob Rock‘s “Last Train Home,” “I Guess I Just Feel Like,” “Wild Blue” and “New Light.”

The evening also took on an unexpected emotional dimension in the wake of Dolly Parton’s death Tuesday at 80. Before launching into “Gravity,” Mayer performed a solo-guitar rendition of Parton’s “I Will Always Love You,” her 1974 composition that became an enduring global anthem through Whitney Houston’s 1992 version. In an interview with Cohen airing Friday on SiriusXM’s Radio Andy, Mayer described Parton as the rare artist who could “galvanize a very fractured world” and bring people together. “This is what a life well-lived looks like, feels like, sounds like,” he said.

Mayer’s Hamptons takeover extended beyond the Talkhouse, with eight Amagansett businesses offering food and drinks inspired by his songs from Saturday through Wednesday. Among them was Rosie’s Frozen Rosie cocktail, named for Mayer’s “Rosie,” with proceeds benefiting his Heart & Armor Foundation, which supports veteran health.

The full performance will air Saturday at 8 p.m. ET on Life With John Mayer and will be available afterward via the SiriusXM app. Mayer serves as curator and an on-air presence for the SiriusXM channel, offering listeners a window into his life and music along with stories and insights from across his catalog and career.
