Mina Tindle Bolsters Her ‘Compass’

For Mina Tindle, collaboration has always been less drawn from long relationships, shared language and mutual trust. On Compass Rosa (Expanded Edition), that instinct pays off in a big way.

Announced today and due April 24 via Paris label s76, the bolstered version of her 2025 album adds three new tracks, one of which, “My Light,” sports longtime collaborator Sufjan Stevens. The first preview, “Ladies,” is a tribute to resilience, with Tindle calling it “an ode to the all-knowing women” in her life.

Stevens previously appeared on the album’s standout duet “Heaven Thunder.” Speaking of his contribution to “My Light,” Tindle says, “the song is about trying to keep the light of those we have lost in our lives … right behind the sun … as a direction, as a compass.”

The album was born out of a writing retreat between Tindle and her husband, the National’s Bryce Dessner, whose compositional fingerprints are all over the project. His string arrangements, performed by the Quatuor Zaïde, provide a chamber-folk backbone, while National multi-instrumentalist Ben Lanz adds subtle rhythmic and synth textures.

Outside the studio, that extended National family remains close, as Tindle’s upcoming April 13 Paris headline show at Le Trianon is set to feature guest appearances from vocalist Matt Berninger, alongside Bryce and Aaron Dessner. The group has not performed live as a full band since fall 2024.

Originally released last November, Compass Rosa marked Tindle’s first album in five years and was recorded in just five days at producer David Chalmin’s studio.
