New Mars Volta Mystery Deepens With Fan-Powered Vote

The Mars Volta continues to keep fans guessing. After launching a cryptic teaser site on June 8 featuring a countdown clock that expired the following day, the Omar Rodriguez-Lopez, and Cedric Bixler-Zavala-led band has slowly been revealing pieces of what appears to be a larger project still shrouded in secrecy.

The interactive platform allows fans to hear and vote on live recordings drawn from 2025 performances of material from Lucro Sucio: Los Ojos del Vacio, fueling speculation about what may ultimately emerge from the campaign. The tracks are identified by symbols rather than city names, seemingly encouraging listeners to focus on the performances themselves rather than their geographic origins.

Now, SPIN can exclusively reveal the next phase of the rollout: three alternate cover designs that fans will be invited to vote on beginning tomorrow (June 19). The winning artwork will be used for the deluxe edition of the still-unannounced project. Voters can also opt in to have their names included in the album’s credits.

The songs from Lucro Sucio: Los Ojos del Vacio were debuted in February 2025 while the Mars Volta was opening for Deftones in North American arenas, weeks before they were even announced as being a part of a proper studio album. The project was eventually released on April 11.

The Mars Volta broke a 10-year hiatus from recording and touring in 2022 with the release of a self-titled comeback album. That same music was recast in acoustic versions the following year under the moniker Que Dios Te Maldiga Mi Corazon.

The band will be back on the road for eight September shows in the south, beginning Sept. 8 in Ventura, Ca. The run culminates in a Sept. 20 appearance at massive Louisville, Ky., hard rock fest Louder Than Life.
