Radiohead’s Coachella Moment Is An Archival Film

Fans were justifiably confused last year when Radiohead appeared on the Coachella lineup poster as participants in something described as “the Bunker debut of Kid A Mnesia.” Just days before the festival begins in Indio, Ca., the famously mysterious group has finally offered some clarification.

“At its center is a 75-minute, large format film made from thousands of fragments created by Thom Yorke and Stanley Donwood during the recording of Kid A and Amnesiac: sketches, paintings, collages, audio, recordings and handwritten notes,” reads an Instagram post from the official Coachella account. Kid A Mnesia will be screened in a bespoke structure still taking shape on the Empire Polo Club grounds, but fans will need to secure free, timed-entry tickets through AXS. Those without reservations will be admitted on a first-come, first-served basis.

Kid A Mnesia shares its name with a 2021 collection combining both the Kid A and Amnesiac albums with b-sides and rarities from the era. The band planned to launch a corresponding physical exhibition, but plans were derailed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Now, it appears Kid A Mnesia will screen in other markets after Coachella, but no details have been announced.

Radiohead hasn’t performed in the United States since 2018 and broke a seven-year break from the stage on a European tour last fall. The Thom Yorke-led group is widely expected to make a stateside visit in 2027.
