Slipknot is officially parting ways with Sid Wilson, ending the DJ and keyboardist’s nearly 30-year run with the Iowa hard rock institution.
“Effective immediately, Slipknot will no longer be associated with Sid Wilson,” the band said in an Instagram post that has since been deleted. “We wish him the best in his future endeavors.” Wilson joined Slipknot in 1998, a year before the band released its self-titled debut, and became a defining presence in the group’s notoriously combustible live show.
More from Spin:
The circumstances surrounding his departure remain unclear. TMZ first reported Wilson’s exit in late July, while guitarist Jim Root subsequently cautioned fans against jumping to conclusions. “Don’t believe everything you read,” Root wrote. “Stop. Think. Take a breath. Sit with it for awhile. Maybe. Just maybe even wait until there’s more information.”
For a band that has endured its share of upheaval, Wilson’s exit marks another significant loss. Craig Jones departed in 2023, Chris Fehn left in 2019, and founding members Joey Jordison and Paul Gray died in 2021 and 2020, respectively. Slipknot’s most recent album remains 2022’s The End, So Far, while its last live performance came at Ohio’s Inkcarceration festival in July 2025.
Wilson’s tenure was, fittingly, never short on physical commitment. In a 2011 SPIN interview recalling one of Slipknot’s more infamous stage mishaps, Wilson described breaking both heels on the first night of the Mayhem Festival after attempting a jump over Gray that he had performed countless times before.
“I was jumping over Paul, done it a million times, and for some reason this time I was a little far behind myself and I had on all 30, 40 pounds of leather and chains, kind of a Road Warrior thing,” he told SPIN. “I had done the jump in dress shoes lots of times. I was cocky and I didn’t look at the arena first.”
The result was spectacularly painful: “So I jumped and smashed into my heels and broke both of them. Tremendous amount of pain. I finished the show, but I did the rest of the tour in a wheelchair. Some nights I’d end up crawling around on stage, dragging my body around. I looked like a guy from Hellraiser.”
Slipknot’s remaining members have yet to publicly address what prompted the split or how it may impact its future.
