Snow Patrol Begins BMG Chapter With Kylie Minogue

Nearly three decades after forming in Dundee, Scotland, and two years after returning to the top of the U.K. charts with The Forest Is the Path, Snow Patrol is entering a new era.

The Gary Lightbody-led band has signed a new global recording deal with BMG, covering all future studio recordings and launching what both sides describe as a partnership built on “craft, longevity and international ambition.”

The first fruit of that partnership arrives in the form of “These Alarms,” a collaboration with Kylie Minogue that has apparently been in the works for some time. According to the label, the song was originally written with Minogue specifically in mind during sessions for The Forest Is the Path, but the band elected to hold it back until it had the opportunity to record it with her.

“We are delighted to be working with BMG,” Snow Patrol said in a statement. “We’ve known [BMG executive] Alistair Norbury and his team for a long time and he and everyone at the label have always been enthusiastic supporters and champions of music and creativity. We’re excited about working together on new SP music. We can’t wait to get started.”

The new recording agreement expands an existing relationship between Snow Patrol and BMG, which already represents the music publishing interests of band members Gary Lightbody and Nathan Connolly. Snow Patrol is best known for its 2003 breakthrough album Final Straw and a series of smash hits, including “Chasing Cars,” “Run,” “Open Your Eyes” and “Just Say Yes.”
