Soundgarden Drafts McCready, Momsen For Halftime Show

Taylor Momsen will return to the Soundgarden stage this fall, joining the Seattle legends for a special halftime performance when the NFL champion Seahawks open their 2026 season against the New England Patriots on Sept. 9 at Lumen Field in Seattle. Pearl Jam guitarist Mike McCready will also take part in the hometown gig.

The appearance marks another chapter in Momsen’s increasingly deep connection with Soundgarden. During the 2017 Soundgarden tour that ended prematurely in Cornell’s suicide, the Pretty Reckless frontwoman developed a close relationship with him and the band’s surviving members, Kim Thayil, Ben Shepherd and Matt Cameron. She has since performed with them on numerous occasions, including their 2025 induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

“As an artist [being asked to open the tour] was the highest compliment that you could possibly get,” she told SPIN in 2021. “If you know anything about me, I mean Soundgarden is just the epitome [when it comes to rock bands]. I was there that last night in Detroit. I talked to him, gave him a hug and said goodbye. When I wake up to that news the next morning … It just went from the most elating experience to the one of the most devastating.”

Asked by SPIN in 2011 to name her favorite new artist two years after Soundgarden reunited following a decade-plus-long break, Momsen replied, “Soundgarden. Wait… does that count? I think they count because they’re making a new record. It’s been 15 years so it might as well be a new band. Chris Cornell has some pretty big shoes to fill: his own. I wouldn’t want to write a follow up to Down on the Upside.”

The Pretty Reckless’ fifth studio album, DEAR GOD, came out June 26 via Fearless Records. The group’s supporting global tour runs through Dec. 3 in Glasgow and follows a two-year run supporting AC/DC.

The halftime performance will also bring a notable reunion for Cameron with his former Pearl Jam bandmate McCready. Cameron exited Pearl Jam in May 2025 after 27 years behind the drum kit; Pearl Jam will introduce his replacement at the Ohana festival in Dana Point, Ca., on Sept. 27.
