As expected, Weezer has unveiled “Shine Again,” the lead single from its as-yet-untitled debut for Reprise/Warner Records. The cut had been distributed to fans on USB drives during a performance last week at tiny Venice, Ca., venue Hinano Cafe.
The upcoming album was produced by Swedish veteran Klas Åhlund (Robyn, Charli xcx, Madonna) and Kenny Beats (IDLES, Vince Staples). It’s the follow-up to 2021’s Van Weezer, the band’s sixth and final release for Atlantic, which debuted at No. 11 on the Billboard 200.
More from Spin:
“The car door / the pavement / the drop off / the waving / turn signals tell someone / the dog walk / the dishes / the good morning kisses / I’m nailing / each task on my list,” frontman Rivers Cuomo sings with pride on “Shine Again.”
Weezer has been hosting Weezer: The Gathering — Initiation Week for fans since last week, with activities including a trivia night at Barney’s Beanery and a pickleball tournament against band members.
Weezer will support the new music on a 32-city fall tour with support from the Shins and Silversun Pickups. Dates begin Sept. 8 in Sacramento, Ca., and conclude Oct. 24 in Los Angeles. Tickets go on sale to the general public on Friday (April 3).
